{"id":281,"date":"2008-10-14T21:07:47","date_gmt":"2008-10-15T04:07:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/?p=281"},"modified":"2008-10-16T22:11:09","modified_gmt":"2008-10-17T05:11:09","slug":"a-grateful-rainy-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/?p=281","title":{"rendered":"A grateful rainy day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is back.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/0031.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-282\" title=\"0031\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/0031-300x229.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On this rainy day in Albuquerque, NM, I am feeling especially blessed.\u00a0 I am not usually given to assigning sentimentality to &#8216;things&#8217;.\u00a0 But as I put my VOTE flag back on my scooter, it was impossible not to connect it to the\u00a0love and support\u00a0from the incredible people, known and new, in my life.<\/p>\n<p>For my new readers,\u00a0you should know that my VOTE flag almost did not happen.\u00a0 Early on, I\u00a0discovered that I could not purchase a stock flag pole that fit my scooter.\u00a0 My brother-in-law <strong>Marty McKay<\/strong> stepped in and designed and machined a custom bracket to fit my bike.\u00a0 Sadly, at the outset of this journey, the flag was lost.\u00a0 When learning of this, <strong>Levie<\/strong> of Levie&#8217;s Alterations in Bakersfield, CA, offered to make me another one.\u00a0 In Williams, my friend <strong>Shayne Newbold<\/strong> attached the hardware to secure the flag.\u00a0 And here in Albuquerque, <strong>Michael Resudek<\/strong> of Imagic Printing (on Louisianna Blvd) created the transfer prints to complete the process.\u00a0 Oh, and a shout out to <strong>Veronica and her manager<\/strong> at the Rio Grande Best Western who, when I could not get a cab, kindly drove me in the\u00a0hotel shuttle to pick up the transfers.<\/p>\n<p>It is a small and touching symbol of the grace that has defined this journey and my life.\u00a0 Please indulge me on this post as I miss my friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>It starts with my children, <strong>Bobby and Katie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/bobby-and-kd.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-286\" title=\"bobby-and-kd\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/bobby-and-kd-286x299.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/bobby-and-kd-286x299.jpg 286w, https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/bobby-and-kd.jpg 536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 286px) 100vw, 286px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There has not been a day since\u00a0they came into my life that\u00a0I have not cherished and been in bewildered awe.\u00a0 They are good, kind and funny (seriously, these two are hysterical).\u00a0 And there are few things that I have greater faith in\u00a0or admiration of.\u00a0\u00a0My world\u00a0is joyful\u00a0for knowing and loving them.\u00a0 I miss you both.<\/p>\n<p>(Note &#8211; This photo is a polaroid manipulation by Marisa Zucek, mother of beautiful Addison running toward Bobby and Katie)<\/p>\n<p>I am at a loss to even begin\u00a0to\u00a0thank <strong>Derrick Kikuchi<\/strong> and <strong>Craig Wiesner.<\/strong>\u00a0 My best friends, they are\u00a0consummate examples of compassion, faith and service.\u00a0 For going on three decades we have shared our triumphs and darkness with love and a light heart.\u00a0 This journey could not have happened without them.\u00a0 From the practical (giving up a combined 10 hours on a holiday to build and host my blog and endless IT support) to the inspirational (guiding my spirit and challenging my ideals) they are a my foundation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And my list goes on,<\/p>\n<p>My sisters, <strong>Linda, Dianne and Debbie<\/strong> &#8211; For your wonderful humor,\u00a0 unconditional encouragement and willingness not to mock me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marisa, Jamie, Addison and Daxton Zucek<\/strong> &#8211; For allowing me be a part of your beautiful family and for your endless talents which make me feel quite inadequate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mari, Steve and Amy Young<\/strong> &#8211; For your joy.\u00a0 For supporting me though your concerns and loving me in spite of them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Robert McDonald<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211; My ex-husband, and Bobby and Katie&#8217;s Dad.\u00a0 For being great at both.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Juan Ernesto Rodriguez<\/strong> &#8211; For making every dream seem graspable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bob and Donna DeVries <\/strong>&#8211; For being my role models and showing me what is possible.<\/p>\n<p>My fellow evil deacons, <strong>Sharon McClintock and Sue Skulina<\/strong> &#8211; For seeing the best in all things, my world is brighter.<\/p>\n<p>My crew, <strong>Kelly Bailey<\/strong>, <strong>Bob and Pearl Campbell<\/strong>, <strong>Roderick and Merrianne Young <\/strong>and <strong>Carol and Dave Bassett <\/strong>&#8211; Your insights and laughter challenge and feed me.<\/p>\n<p>My boss and yes, Republican friend, <strong>Don Metzger<\/strong> &#8211; For supporting my absence and my dream without hesitation.\u00a0 And to <strong>Elina<\/strong> for keeping the work fires burning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Chien<\/strong> &#8211;
