{"id":305,"date":"2008-10-15T23:10:49","date_gmt":"2008-10-16T06:10:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/?p=305"},"modified":"2008-10-16T14:01:28","modified_gmt":"2008-10-16T21:01:28","slug":"debate-night-at-the-silver-moon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/?p=305","title":{"rendered":"Debate Night at the Silver Moon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Practicing openness can take many forms.<\/p>\n<p>When my friend Maureen from Roseville suggested that I create a photo journal of the diner food that I\u00a0eat on this trip, I was intrigued.\u00a0 Deciding to expand on the idea, I committed to ordering\u00a0whatever the house specialty was,\u00a0photographing it and<em> eating it<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0My cardiac health aside, this little gambit has worked out better than I anticipated.\u00a0 Tonight, however, I will admit that my heart sank just a bit when the waitress at the Silver Moon\u00a0Cafe told me they were known for their beef green chili stew.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-306\" title=\"004\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/004-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That sinking feeling turned into a thump when\u00a0it was placed in from of me.\u00a0 I proceeded with caution and must report that this\u00a0was one of the\u00a0most satisfying\u00a0meals\u00a0that I have eaten in recent memory.\u00a0\u00a0Sweet reward.<\/p>\n<p>My favorite part of the debate tonight was when the discussion turned to reasonable\u00a0discourse among people of opposing views.\u00a0 It must start with our leadership, but it is clear to me that we all, as an active citizenry, are called to get uncomfortable and engage in the process.\u00a0 Plainly stated, our isolation is not serving our democracy.<\/p>\n<p>In that spirit, I would like to introduce you to Morley and Vaniece Sprage.\u00a0 En route home to Utah, they were traveling with their 3 year old granddaughter Tiedra.\u00a0 Morley and Vaniece have been raising Tiedra since she was 3 months old.\u00a0 They married in 1954 and have 4 children and 14 grandchildren.\u00a0 They speak candidly of their fears and their faith.<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/fpdownload.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0\" width=\"400\" height=\"15\" id=\"xspf_player\" align=\"middle\"><param name=\"allowScriptAccess\" value=\"sameDomain\" \/><param name=\"movie\" value=\"\/xspf_player_slim.swf?song_url=https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-sprages2.mp3&song_title='The Sprages'&player_title='The Sprages'\" \/><param name=\"quality\" value=\"high\" \/><param name=\"bgcolor\" value=\"#e6e6e6\" \/><embed src=\"\/xspf_player_slim.swf?song_url=https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-sprages2.mp3&song_title='The Sprages'&player_title='The Sprages'\" quality=\"high\" bgcolor=\"#e6e6e6\" width=\"400\" height=\"15\" name=\"xspf_player\" align=\"middle\" allowScriptAccess=\"sameDomain\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" pluginspage=\"http:\/\/www.macromedia.com\/go\/getflashplayer\" \/><\/object><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-sprages2.mp3\" target=_blank>The Sprages<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Enjoy and, occasionally, order the house specialty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Practicing openness can take many forms.
