{"id":384,"date":"2008-10-20T22:02:41","date_gmt":"2008-10-21T05:02:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/?p=384"},"modified":"2008-10-21T15:27:36","modified_gmt":"2008-10-21T22:27:36","slug":"gusts-are-just-gusts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/?p=384","title":{"rendered":"Gusts are just gusts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Are we still doing convoys because I didn&#8217;t get the memo&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Within minutes of merging onto the interstate this morning on what promised to be the best riding day of this trip, I was beset with, conservatively, twenty semi&#8217;s traveling in what can only be described as coordinated vehicular terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>I recognize that at this point in my blog, I risk appearing obsessed about wind and wind related phenomena. But there is a particular combination of wind gusts that I feel compelled to share with you. It occurs when the turbulent wind that bounces of a truck\u00a0that has just pulled back in front of you after passing, is followed one moment later by the first gust off the second truck that is now is passing on your left.\u00a0 A truck gust two-step, if you will.<\/p>\n<p>Convoys represent the opportunity to experience this\u00a0horror serially for their duration. Upon seeing the endless line of trucks that appear in your rear view mirror, there is instant clarity.\u00a0 Breathe or die.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And then it is over.<\/p>\n<p>As I continued my ride through Oklahoma, taking in the incredible foliage that\u00a0is just beginning to hint at a color change, it was hard not to wax philosophic.\u00a0 All of the recent convolutions on the campaign trail, from Ayers, Acorn to the &#8216;real&#8217; America, start to feel just like the wind gusts from a convoy.\u00a0 As we enter the final days of this election, my message from the heartland is, breathe.<\/p>\n<p>Please\u00a0listen to Kenny Fields and I think you will understand.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/0012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-385\" title=\"0012\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/0012-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kenny was born in Illinois but spent the last\u00a0thirty years in Texas.\u00a0 Doing rodeos and ranch work,\u00a0he made his way to Henrietta, Oklahoma\u00a0four years ago.
