{"id":450,"date":"2008-10-25T20:48:10","date_gmt":"2008-10-26T03:48:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/?p=450"},"modified":"2008-10-25T22:03:44","modified_gmt":"2008-10-26T05:03:44","slug":"colors-of-natchez-trace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/?p=450","title":{"rendered":"Colors of Natchez Trace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This day, like no other on this trip, made me love my scooter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/color-road.bmp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-451\" title=\"color-road\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/color-road.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"487\" height=\"291\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I will confess that there have been several moments when I questioned the sanity of my decision to ride\u00a0the scooter.\u00a0 Not today.\u00a0 Like riding though a postcard, the road that leads into Nashville through the Natchez Trace State Park is\u00a0breathtaking.\u00a0 In one day, the colors exploded and I spent the entire ride\u00a0with my jaw agape.\u00a0 It was a good day.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, interviewing was a bit tough.\u00a0 Part of the blame is mine, and part belongs to the University of Tennessee.\u00a0 See, during the day, I was having so much fun that I was more interested in riding than lingering to talk.\u00a0 However, I fully expected to make up for it in the evening.\u00a0 That is, until I started to see several cars and trucks sporting flags with big orange T&#8217;s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/tennessee.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-452\" title=\"tennessee\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/tennessee.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I slowly put it together that it was football day.\u00a0 Tennesse was playing Alabama.\u00a0 What I did not\u00a0know was that it was an evening game.\u00a0 Moreover, and this should come as no surprise, Tennessee takes their football seriously.\u00a0 As far as I can tell, talking and eye contact are off limits during game time.<\/p>\n<p>So I was particularly thankful to find Mayuri (she requested first name only).\u00a0 Mayuri moved to Lebanon, Tennessee 7 years ago at the age of 14 with her family from India.\u00a0 This will be her first Presidential election and it was refreshing to hear her unique point of view.<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/fpdownload.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0\" width=\"400\" height=\"15\" id=\"xspf_player\" align=\"middle\"><param name=\"allowScriptAccess\" value=\"sameDomain\" \/><param name=\"movie\" value=\"\/xspf_player_slim.swf?song_url=https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/mayuri.mp3&song_title='Mayuri'&player_title='Mayuri'\" \/><param name=\"quality\" value=\"high\" \/><param name=\"bgcolor\" value=\"#e6e6e6\" \/><embed src=\"\/xspf_player_slim.swf?song_url=https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/mayuri.mp3&song_title='Mayuri'&player_title='Mayuri'\" quality=\"high\" bgcolor=\"#e6e6e6\" width=\"400\" height=\"15\" name=\"xspf_player\" align=\"middle\" allowScriptAccess=\"sameDomain\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" pluginspage=\"http:\/\/www.macromedia.com\/go\/getflashplayer\" \/><\/object><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/mayuri.mp3\" target=_blank>Mayuri<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oh, and for the record, Alabama won.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This day, like no other on this trip, made me love my scooter.
