{"id":486,"date":"2008-10-28T21:38:30","date_gmt":"2008-10-29T04:38:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/?p=486"},"modified":"2008-10-29T05:48:47","modified_gmt":"2008-10-29T12:48:47","slug":"my-night-at-the-tea-room","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/?p=486","title":{"rendered":"My night at the Tea Room"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Unquestionably, the coolest part of a trip like this is\u00a0finding yourself in the most surprising and incongruent places.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight it would be a vintage motorcycle club meeting at a tea room in Knoxville, Tennessee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/time-warp.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-487\" title=\"time-warp\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/time-warp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"208\" height=\"289\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was a convoluted path that brought me here.\u00a0 It started with the weather delay that grew into a small depression (mine), which led to a day of logistical maneuvering, and ultimately meeting Charley Cox.\u00a0 Charley is a local mainstay in the Knoxville motorcycle community and\u00a0the most recent addition to my roadtrip angels club.\u00a0 More on that later.<\/p>\n<p>Pulling up to\u00a0the Time Warp Tea Room with its rows of meticulously maintained motorcycles lining the sidewalk, it is the coolest of contradictions.\u00a0\u00a0 Here, Knoxville riders gather and drink gourmet coffees, eat\u00a0homemade cookies and tea cakes after\u00a0downing their signature tamale\/chili combo and surrounded by motorcycle memorabilia.\u00a0 You can&#8217;t make this stuff up.\u00a0 In their own words &#8216;where else can one play a 40-year old pinball machine amidst walls covered with 1980&#8217;s <em>Cycle News<\/em>?&#8217;\u00a0\u00a0This\u00a0defines\u00a0cool.<\/p>\n<p>Here I met David Rhynehart.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/0023.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-489\" title=\"0023\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/0023-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Born in North Carolina, but raised here in Knoxville, David is a mechanical technician and\u00a0a veteran.\u00a0 His family is here\u00a0and includes his mother, brother and sister, and his son.\u00a0 He is both clear and concise, and unwavering in his support and strict interpretation of\u00a0conservatism. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/fpdownload.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0\" width=\"400\" height=\"15\" id=\"xspf_player\" align=\"middle\"><param name=\"allowScriptAccess\" value=\"sameDomain\" \/><param name=\"movie\" value=\"\/xspf_player_slim.swf?song_url=https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/david-rhynehart.mp3&song_title='David Rhynehart'&player_title='David Rhynehart'\" \/><param name=\"quality\" value=\"high\" \/><param name=\"bgcolor\" value=\"#e6e6e6\" \/><embed src=\"\/xspf_player_slim.swf?song_url=https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/david-rhynehart.mp3&song_title='David Rhynehart'&player_title='David Rhynehart'\" quality=\"high\" bgcolor=\"#e6e6e6\" width=\"400\" height=\"15\" name=\"xspf_player\" align=\"middle\" allowScriptAccess=\"sameDomain\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" pluginspage=\"http:\/\/www.macromedia.com\/go\/getflashplayer\" \/><\/object><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2008\/wp-content\/uploads\/david-rhynehart.mp3\" target=_blank>David Rhynehart<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Roadtrip News:\u00a0 Due to 25 mph winds and a high of 43 degrees, I\u00a0am getting a ride (read tow)\u00a0to Marion, Virginia tomorrow.\u00a0 It is about 140 miles and\u00a0gets me into striking distance of Washington DC.\u00a0 From there, I promise only to\u00a0ride if the weather permits.\u00a0 Fingers crossed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unquestionably, the coolest part of a trip like this is\u00a0finding yourself in the most surprising and incongruent places.
