{"id":193,"date":"2016-10-29T21:49:48","date_gmt":"2016-10-30T04:49:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2016\/?p=193"},"modified":"2016-10-30T21:34:22","modified_gmt":"2016-10-31T04:34:22","slug":"a-tale-of-two-rallies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2016\/?p=193","title":{"rendered":"A Tale of Two Rallies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was hard not to make comparisons. \u00a0I cannot remember an election when the contrasts were so stark, and seeing both candidates in one day, back to back, was an exercise in mental juxtapositioning (yes, I invented a word) \u00a0Lets start with size. \u00a0My estimate was that there were approximately 3,000 people at Hillary&#8217;s rally, while I would put Donald&#8217;s (yep I am going with first names) at just over 4,000.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-201\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2016\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1471.jpg\" alt=\"img_1471\" width=\"400\" height=\"121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2016\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1471.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2016\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1471-300x91.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 85vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2016\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1480.jpg\" alt=\"img_1480\" width=\"400\" height=\"137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2016\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1480.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.hwireroad.org\/2016\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_1480-300x103.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 85vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hillary&#8217;s\u00a0campaign organization and volunteers were widespread and busy arranging \u00a0get-out-the-vote activities. \u00a0I did not see much active campaign efforts at Donald&#8217;s rally, most notable, they did not even collect the tickets which had our\u00a0contact information. \u00a0Not surprisingly (Hillary&#8217;s rally was the\u00a0Iowa Democratic Party \u201cWomen Win\u201d early vote rally) was predominantly women (I am guessing 70%) who brought their children while Donald&#8217;s leaned male and far less children.<\/p>\n<p>Most of all, you can notice a significant difference in tone in their introductions and opening comments. \u00a0Oh and Hillary had an advance \u00a0team filled with people like Cecile Richards, head of Planned Parenthood. \u00a0Donald had a former Celebrity Apprentice.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube video=1GBwMZXCSsU]<\/p>\n<p>Curve Two: \u00a0Moments after arriving at the Hillary event and having established myself in a bleacher with a good view\u00a0of the crowd, my cell phone went off. \u00a0My boss had texted me &#8216;oh my did you pick an interesting day to go to the rallies&#8217; \u00a0I was speaking to a group of African American women and had no idea what we was talking about. \u00a0My cell phone lit up with ambiguous messages like &#8216;what is happening???&#8217; Please people, text in complete sentences! \u00a0Then finally, &#8216;was texting because of FBI news&#8230;. reopening case against Hillary&#8217;. \u00a0Sigh. \u00a0I looked up and surrealistically (yep, a new word) watched as attendees faces turned down to their phones and slowly learned the same news. \u00a0Other worldly.<\/p>\n<p>Curve Three: \u00a0And the best moment of my day. \u00a0It occurred at the Trump rally when I met Mike Brown.
